Swagelok's material difference refers to the superior quality and composition of their stainless steel tube fittings. The key aspects of this material difference are:

  1. Higher chromium and nickel content:  Swagelok maintains a minimum of 17% chromium and 12% nickel in their 316 stainless steel fittings, which is above the ASTM requirements of 16-18% chromium and 10-14% nickel. This elevated composition provides better corrosion resistance and ductility.
  2. Proprietary stainless steel formula:  Swagelok uses a unique stainless steel composition that cannot be purchased by anyone else. This formula undergoes extensive testing, including 100% ultrasonic analysis and eddy current testing.
  3. Superior chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) resistance:  Swagelok fittings have demonstrated exceptional performance in CSCC testing, with zero cracking or leaking observed in their nuts compared to other brands.
  4. SAT12® process:  This unique low-temperature carburization process gives Swagelok's back ferrules tool-steel-like hardness and strength, resulting in better tube grip, gas sealing, and vibration resistance.
  5. Wide range of alloys:  Swagelok offers various alloy options to combat corrosion in different applications, including 6 Moly, Alloy 20, Alloy 400, and others.
  6. Engineered combinations:  Swagelok's elevated chromium and nickel levels allow for innovative combinations of 316 stainless steel fittings with higher alloy tubing in certain applications.
